In a world that can often feel fragmented, finding a space where you are seen, heard, and celebrated for your authentic self is a powerful thing. For the diverse community of Pagans, heathens, and practitioners of Earth based faiths in Northern Nevada, that space is the Reno Pagan Pride Project (RPPP).
But who are we, and more importantly, why do we do what we do?
Who We Are
The Reno Pagan Pride Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering pride in Pagan identity through education, activism, charity, and community. We are a tapestry of individuals, Wiccans, Druids, Heathens, Polytheists, and seekers of all stripes, who share a common reverence for the sacredness of nature and the cycles of the Earth.
We aren’t just an event planning committee; we are your neighbors, coworkers, and friends, working together to build a visible and vibrant community in the Truckee Meadows.
Why We Exist
Historically, many practitioners of alternative spiritualities have felt the need to remain “in the broom closet” due to misconceptions or lack of understanding from the broader public. The Reno Pagan Pride Project exists to bridge that gap.
We exist to:
- Provide a Safe Haven: A place where people can practice their faith openly without fear of judgment.
- Educate the Public: By offering transparent information and open dialogue, we dispel myths and replace them with understanding.
- Support Local Practitioners: Connecting newcomers with mentors, groups, and resources to help them on their spiritual journey.
Our Purpose: The Power of Community
At the heart of our mission is a simple, unwavering belief: Community is essential. Our purpose is to create an environment where the solitary practitioner realizes they aren’t actually alone. We believe that when we come together, our collective energy can effect real change, not just within our spiritual circles, but in the Reno Sparks area as a whole. Whether through our annual Pagan Pride Day festival, educational workshops, or social gatherings, our goal is to weave a stronger social fabric for everyone involved.
Why We Do the Work
We do this work because we believe that connection is a basic human need. We do it because we believe that the values of stewardship, personal responsibility, and honor, central to many Pagan paths, make our city a better place to live.
We also do this work for the sake of charity and service. A core component of our mission is giving back. By organizing food drives, fundraisers, and community service projects, we demonstrate that our spirituality is rooted in action. We don’t just talk about being one with the world; we roll up our sleeves to care for it and the people in it.
Coming Together
The Reno Pagan Pride Project is a testament to what happens when people choose inclusion over isolation. We celebrate our differences while honoring our shared roots in the Earth.
Whether you are a lifelong practitioner or simply curious about our traditions, there is a place for you here. We do this work for the community, by the community, because we are always stronger when we stand together.
