Why is Pagan Pride Day important to you?
Reno Pagan Pride Day is important to me for several reasons. Most importantly, many of us practice “solitary” because of fear of reprisals or discrimination. Pagan Pride Day is a reminder for the solitaries that we are not alone, and a way to teach seekers and those curious about our paths. It is an opportunity to learn about and from each other so we can enrich each other’s practices.
What do you want to share about your pagan path?
I first encountered the idea of a non-Christian faith when I picked up D’Aulaire’s Norse Mythology from my elementary school library. The heroic tales and the emphasis on individual’s strengths drew me in and I have always returned to those values: accept challenges, and respect differences in talents. The unfortunate influence of white supremacists in Asatru/Heathenry has encouraged me to learn more about the mythology and history of the Viking era Norse people.
What is something you would like to create for the Reno area pagan community? (i.e., what don’t we have that you’d like to see?)
I am involved in the Pagan Pride Project because I want to build more opportunities for people to feel safe being public in their paths. Hate and fear breed in shadow, the Pagan Pride Project is one of lights driving the shadow away.
What does paganism mean to you?
Paganism is a way to connect with nature and the forces around us. It allows us to interpret our relationship with the Divine in a way that makes sense to us individually.
